What it shows

lines or commits this year
Lines added in green and deleted in red, or your commit count, over the last 365 days, or this month or this week if you pick one.
streak
How many days in a row you have committed.
top language
The main language of the repos you committed to most in that window.

GitHub's image cache serves it, so the numbers refresh about once an hour.

Private and work repos count too

Most widgets see only what GitHub publishes. Link a computer and its private and work repos are counted there, by a small open-source CLI that sends numbers only, so they show on the badge as well. How linking works.

The badge shows only what you allow everyone to see, and never a repo name. If your page is not open to everyone, it shows a plain gitstats badge with no numbers. Privacy.
